School Team Reach Semis!

*** St Joseph's Reach Tournament Semi Finals ***

St Joseph's ventured to the ActiSport Schools' Tournament Finals' Day this morning which was held in Donard Park, Newcastle.
All the qualifiers from the Newcastle and Downpatrick area were in attendance.
St Joseph's were placed in Group 3 and after their two games they finished runners up to gain a place in the quarter finals....
Their first group game was a tight 1-0 defeat to Newcastle P.S.
Things picked up in the next game as a cracker from Reece McIlhone earned Killough a 1-0 victory over a very strong St Mary's P.S. Newcastle side.
Next up was the quarter finals.
Killough's opponents were the Newcastle League champions All Children's P.S. Newcastle who had topped their qualifying group undefeated.
A cracking game ended 0-0 after fulltime.
Sudden death penalties ensued and after a lot of drama up stepped Darragh Gamble who scored a sensational winner to send Killough through to the semi finals.
St Joseph's were the talk of the tournament by this stage as they prepared themselves for a semi final against big favourites Our Lady's and St Patrick's P.S. Downpatrick who had already won the Downpatrick League.
Despite Killough's best efforts they ran out of steam as Our Lady's and St Patrick's won 4-0 to make it to the final.
Killough had the youngest panel in the tournament and were the only school in attendance that had P4's and P5's in their matchday squad. This youthfullness bodes extremely well for the future of football in the school.
A well done to all the panel for their tremendous efforts. You done yourselves, your families and your school proud.
A big thank you to Graham Crory and his ActiSport team for their wonderful hospitality and organisation.
A massive thank you too goes to our parents Laura Murphy, Theresa Ranaghan and Lisa McIlhone for their assistance with lifts to and from the venue.
Another great sporting achievement for St Joseph's!
