Well done to our school soccer team who won all three of their games on the opening day of the Downpatrick League.
Despite going 1-0 down early on against Saul the team fought back brilliantly with Ryan Hackett, Charlie Gelston, Jamie O'Neill and Gerry Ward all grabbing a goal apiece with Daire McLaughlin bagging a double as we ran out 6-1 winners.
Next up was a derby game with an excellent St Nicholas team from Ardglass.
There was nothing to separate the teams at the break but a brilliant third quarter saw St Joseph's convert through Gerry Ward and Daire McLaughlin to make it a 2-0 victory.
The last game saw us hit the net nine times as we ousted Our Lady and St Pat's.
There were two hat tricks from Jamie O'Neill and Charlie Gelston with Daire McLaughlin nailing a double and Gerry Ward also getting in on the act as we romped to a 9-0 victory.
This was a great all round team performance with Lewis McClenaghan, Jack Laverty, Philip Gelston, Patrick Hutchinson and Conáire Laverty also outstanding in their positions.
The whole team conducted themselves brilliantly throughout the day and displayed an excellent attitude and fine sportsmanship on and off the field. They were a credit to themselves, their parents and their school.
Many thanks to those parents who helped with lifts to and from the venue. It was greatly appreciated by all.
Round two of the league takes place in a fortnight's time.
