World Book Day 2019
*** World Book Day 2019 ***
Everyone at St Joseph’s had a hugely enjoyable day today celebrating World Book Day.
We kicked off with an assembly in which we got to view all the photo submissions for the ‘getting caught reading’ task. Locations as varied as St John’s Point lighthouse, the Strangford to Portaferry ferry and on the sofa with a guinea pig kept everyone intrigued and entertained.
It was also great to see so many varied costumes and characters on show at assembly. From Batman to Lego’s Ninjago to Billionaire Boy to Harry Potter, there was a vast array of literary interests.
As the day continued each class undertook their own activities. Book token design, book mark creations, C2K News Desk character tasks, book quizzes and library bunting production were just some of the very enjoyable exercises that occurred.
The P7’s continued their annual tradition of bringing the story sacks to the Killough Community Playgroup for a read-a-long with all the children. The P6’s then joined the P7’s for some paired reading with our KS1 pupils.
All children were encouraged to bring in their favourite book but there was one particular unique book that caught everyone’s attention. Our P3 pupil Emer has had a book written all about her namely ‘Where Are You Emer George?’ Very original indeed.
A great day was had by all. Reading is a huge focus in St Joseph’s and it was fantastic to be able to use World Book Day to showcase the strong sense of literary awareness among our pupils.
